Located at 14608 Hwy 1 Wilmot, in between Middleton and Kingston, Summerland Plant Nursery is a family-owned business that started from scratch 15 years ago. We actually started in Kelowna, British Columbia under the name Adrienne’s Plant and Garden. Adrienne was Dennis’s mother who loved and inspired him to use his artistic talent to create beautiful gardens for all to enjoy, so he became a nursery man and a landscaper. The nursery was located in West Bank, Kelowna and was a great success for over a decade on leased land until we decided to move to Nova Scotia where land was more affordable and started our second nursery on land that we could own outright. We named the nursery Gladden’s Nursery which was our names put together: Gladys and Dennis. We had to change our name due to people getting us confused with the another nursery nearby. We then went with a new name, Summerland Plant Nursery, named after our daughter Summer who was born here in Nova Scotia. Summer grew up in the nursery business from her first spring onward to now. Gladys carried Summer on her back using a fabric wrap while we were working. We are a family of three. We are very passionate about our nursery. We have many visions of making beautiful gardens where everyone is welcome to come and enjoy.
